On May 21, 2022, Tom Turcich from New Jersey achieved the remarkable milestone of becoming the 10th person to complete a seven-year journey walking around the world. Over the course of this unparalleled expedition, Tom covered a staggering 48,000 kilometers, spanning six continents and navigating through 38 countries. Notably, his faithful canine companion, Savannah, joined him for the majority of this extraordinary odyssey.

The catalyst for Tom's epic journey was a profound shift in perspective triggered by the tragic loss of a friend at the age of 17. Eight years of meticulous planning and saving preceded Tom's departure from his New Jersey home on April 2, 2015, just before his 26th birthday. Equipped with a specially designed stroller carrying essential gear, including a sleeping bag, a laptop, a camera, and provisions, Tom commenced his unprecedented adventure.

Around four months into the journey, Tom extended his family by adopting Savannah from a Texas animal shelter, marking her as the first dog to achieve the feat of walking around the world. The pair covered an average of 30-40 kilometers each day, predominantly camping through the nights. Notable exceptions included a boat journey from Uruguay to Antarctica.

A temporary hiatus in 2017, prompted by an illness contracted during travels through Ireland and the UK, interrupted the journey. Tom and Savannah resumed their trek in May 2018, navigating through Europe, North Africa, and Turkey, facing the unforeseen challenges of a six-month stay in Azerbaijan due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Continuing their journey through Kyrgyzstan and opting for a plane journey to Seattle, Tom and Savannah concluded their remarkable odyssey by walking back to New Jersey. Tom, now back home, contemplates a period of stability, expressing the intention to document his extraordinary experiences in a book.
