Being a good listener is not just about staying quiet; it also involves showing you are paying attention. One way to do this is through "reflective listening." This means repeating back what the other person said. There are two main ways to do this. The first is "paraphrasing," where you say what the speaker said in your own words. For example, if your friend says they feel stressed and haven't had time to clean the house, you could say, "It sounds like you're overwhelmed because you don't feel prepared for your test." The second way is "mirroring," where you repeat the key parts of what the speaker said, word for word. Reflective listening shows you understand and care about the other person's feelings.
