A long time ago in Si Racha, Thailand, Thanom Chakkapak made a tasty sauce using her dad's recipe. It was sweet, spicy, and salty. She named it "Sriraja Panich." People in town liked it a lot. This sauce, called sriracha, started then. But they didn't keep the name a secret, and anyone could see the recipe on the bottle.

A man from Vietnam, David Tran, liked the sauce idea. In the 1970s, he and his family came to the US. He couldn't find a good hot sauce in California, so he made his version. Tran sold it from his van in baby food jars. People loved it, and he started Huy Fong Foods, named after the boat he came on.

Tran called his sauce "Sriracha" and put a rooster on the bottle. He made a lot of money, but for him, it's not about that. Like Chakkapak, he just wants people to enjoy good hot sauce.
