In a triumphant moment for Israeli agriculture, a colossal strawberry has officially secured its place in the Guinness World Records as the heaviest globally, boasting a weight of 289 grams. Cultivated on Chahi Ariel's family farm near Netanya in central Israel in February 2021, the record-breaking fruit, identified as the Ilan variety, underwent a meticulous confirmation process that lasted a year.

The exceptional size of the strawberry can be attributed to the colder-than-usual weather in early 2021, facilitating a slow and substantial ripening process. Despite the Ilan variety being known for its substantial growth, this particular specimen surpassed expectations, weighing approximately five times more than its counterparts.

Remarkably, over the course of a year, the strawberry experienced a significant reduction, shrinking to about half its original size. Chahi Ariel, the farmer behind this achievement, shared his elation upon learning about the record, recounting the anticipation of waiting for a year and even keeping the strawberry in the freezer.

While the visual appeal of the strawberry may have diminished, the pride in securing a Guinness World Records title is immeasurable for Ariel and his family farm. The previous record was held by a Japanese strawberry from 2015, weighing 250 grams.
